About Me My name is Belkis Delgado, but you can call me “Becky.” I was born in Cuba and by age 3 my devoted parents thankfully relocated us to the United States to flee from the horrible government of communism. New Orleans became my hometown for the next 25 years, where my sister and I grew up with loving grandparents and family nearby. In 1986 I chose to become a registered and licensed dietitian. I love my career because it allows me to use both science and art as I translate ever changing scientific information into practical user-friendly terms. It allows me the ability to personalize and customize a plan for each one of my clients to meet their individual health needs. I have the opportunity to teach you how to prevent diseases and maintain health throughout your lifetime, maximizing your God given potential. Let me explain how I began my career. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Next I graduated from Tulane School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine with my master’s degree in Public Health in Nutrition. Immediately, I took my registration exam, passed and began working at West Jefferson Hospital and Health Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Yes, I still eat fried seafood on occasion. All foods can fit if eaten in the right proportions.) Since then, I have been blessed with a very hard working husband for over 21 years and we have 3 handsome sons that we are very proud of, Blake, Brandon & Kristian. I’ve had the opportunity to be a part-time dietitian all these years, and a full-time mom. (Priorities…) Therefore, I know how difficult it is to focus on your self when you are raising a family & have a career. Trust me, it does get easier as the kids become more independent. Now that mine are 18, 15 and 12 years old, I have decided to make more time to share with you some of the wisdom I’ve gained in the healthcare field and in life. (Timing is everything…) My work experiences include WIC (Women, Infants, & Children in Los Angeles & Miami), South Miami Hospital, Baptist Healthcare Systems, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (Department of Food & Nutrition), Miami-Dade Community College, Escambia County Health Department (School Health), and YMCA of Florida’s First Coast. During these years, I have had the opportunity to work with and help out many interesting people. Along the way I’ve developed lifelong friendships and have had the privilege to mentor others in my field. All of this is part of Gods plan for my life. I believe that it is not by chance that you are here; I believe it is by Gods’ design. His timing is always perfect and His mercies are new everyday. If you are interested in improving your current lifestyle and begin to live your life to the fullest, I promise to “Equip you today to empower your tomorrow.” |
